Let me tell you a story about a little furry charmer we call Slava.
Mid-autumn late night in 2012, it's unusually quiet in the Tähe strt chuvak-apartment. Maria and Vitaly are fast asleep on the makeshift bed under the ceiling. The other kids have gone out to party in town - beers, dancing and all that.
When the cheery company of boys and girls gets back, climbing the wooden stairs to the second floor entrance they hear an outworldly moan coming from somewhere in the darkness of the lestnitsa. Maxim gets out his phone flashlight to see the source. Glowing in the corner is a hairy gray creature with a horrible orcish face and huge alien eyes. Mark gets the fear and suggests they just ignore the beast and get inside fast. The others are too intrigued and on closer inspection the abomination turns out to be a beautiful big purebred cat, that came to search for shelter.
He is escorted inside by the company, of course.
When i was woken up from my slumber by this calamity - excited drunk people and loud moans of the irritated cat - I felt a bit discouraged. We already share this 2,5-room flat with around 5-8 ppl (the amount always varies) 4 birds, 1 cat, 1 dog and a meter long aquarium, do we really need more pets?
Apparently, yes.
Next day I fell in love with him, he was called Aoy then by Maxim ("Aoy! Kawai! Maoui!" were the sounds he loudly mewed). I searched the internet far and wide, learned that he is an excellent example of the exotic shorthair breed and that no place in internet showed any sign of him being missing. I could only assume that his owner was dead or lived in another dimension, a world without internet, so he couldn't be reached. Since somebody needed to take care of him in this hectic hippieflat, me and Vitaly took him under our wing, first for a week-long trial to see if we're up to the task and then forever.
We called him mr. Vjacheslav Aoy, Slava or Slavik in short. Vitaly used to have a drawing teacher Vjacheslav who had a similar expression on his face and that name did sparkle well with me too.
He is a cat like no other I've seen - his manners are slow, calm, poised and careful. The way he positions his heavy paws is no doubt noble. He doesn't beg for love, but he sometimes chooses to grace you by getting comfy in your lap. That takes time and careful consideration too, one does not simply jump into a napping position.
He can't eat soft catfood very well cause his face is so flat. So instead of smudging his perfect visage with sticky grub he picks out bite sized pieces one by one with his front paw and eats from there. While doing that it's important to stay as far as possible from the bowl, to saturate the elegance and finesse with which he then daintily feeds until he's had a plenty.
He is very fond of greek yogurt. When he spots it in my hand he patiently sits next to me, big eyes agape and stretches out his front paw again. "Can has? Would be verily pleesed." his expression says.
His favourite toy is a long straw, everything else (fancy mouse-on-a-string and such) makes him more depressed than curious.
When you scratch an itch on his back he throws his large head back and starts to chomp his big mouth. "Chomp chomp chomp, it is indeed a delicious sensation you offer me, do continue."
He likes the vacuum cleaner. Sometimes when we vacuum our room, we give him a grooming also, makes him more fluffy.
Also he's probably pretty old.
So that's Slava, the cat. I'll leave some pictures here too, so he could win your hearts forever.
